Title : Ski Skating With Champions: How to Ski With Least Energy Author : Einar Svensson Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : Extensive Work
A lot of work went into writing Ski Skating With Champions. It dissects ski skating like no other book before it. Many intermediate level skiers will find it thought provoking.
The expert and elite skiers many find a variety of technical errors, or that the text is overly complex - lacks a consolidated and simple understanding of skiing, but for the sport racer the book is a good one to have on the shelf. I also recommend "Tao of Skiing" which takes an entirely different approach.

Title : Bode: Go Fast, Be Good, Have Fun Author : Bode Miller Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Great book.
What a great read! The book is inspiring, well-written, and funny. A truly enjoyable book. His family history is interesting, and his anecdotes are very humorous. I wish the media folks would read this book and quit trashing him. He is truly an interesting individual.
Title : All-Mountain Skier : The Way to Expert Skiing Author : R. Mark Elling Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Very helpful and comprehensive book
This is the only really good book I've read on skiing. Is excellent in describing technique, equipment, conditions, tuning, etc. Highly recommended.
Title : Tao of Skiing : Aide Memoire for Cross-Country Skiing Aficionados (The Way to learn to Cross Country Ski) Author : Lise Meloche Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Great format and delivery - Well Done.
The CD-ROM is packed full of great advice delivered in easy to read point form (like an Aide Memoire). Each sentence or teaching point stands on its own. I could take one gem of knowledge at a time; without having to wade through pages of pretentious prose. The explanations were very precise and most meaningful to those with some skiing experience under their belt. Best read with an open mind.
Title : The Complete Snowboarder Author : Jeff Bennett Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Great Learn-How-to-Board Book!
Great introduction to snowboarding. Provides all the language and techniques, from beginner to expert. It works best to reread it again after a few times out as you will pick up on many of the tips and techniques once you learn how the basic moves feel. I kept my copy in the car and reread some sections over lunch on my first day. Especially important to read the section on getting off of the chair lift. This has saved me from many falls, while I have watched others flounder and get injured for not following the advice.
Still need to take a lesson first time out, but it will all make sense alot sooner.
Title : Anyone Can Be an Expert Skier 1: The New Way to Ski (Includes Bonus DVD) Author : Harald Harb Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : For us (ahem!) seasoned skiers
I've been skiing for over thirty years so I know everything right? Ha! My first time on modern shaped skis was pretty well...interesting.
I would strongly recommend this to anyone particularly those of us who have to "unlearn" some of the things we've become accustomed to doing in order to get the most out of modern skis. At the very least, we won't be giving our kids outdated advice!
Title : Everything the Instructors Never Told You About Mogul Skiing Author : Dan Dipiro Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : The title says it all
If you are a good-to-expert groomed-trail skier who has been frustrated when trying to use those skills in the bumps, there's a reason. Contrary to what so many of us believe, mogul skiing isn't just a harder version of carving turns down groomers. It's a totally different animal, and once Dan DiPiro explains it in his outstanding new book, you'll understand why all that effort in the bumps has so far not produced any results.
The title is apt. Ski instructors at most resorts, unless you are lucky enough to find a true moguls expert, tend to believe that the basic skills they teach to all skiers are equally applicable in the bumps. But they're not. As DiPiro explains, basic techniques like carving and hip angulation will actually prevent you from skiing the bumps efficiently, while other techniques -- such as keeping your skis close together and maintaining a more erect "home posture" -- will suddenly make you feel at home in the bumps as never before.
In a series of logically organized chapters, each with photos, easy-to-follow tips and practice drills, DiPiro -- who is an accomplished moguls competitor and now teaches skiing in New Hampshire -- explains the specialized techniques that help demystify the bumps. While DiPiro is a moguls competitor, the book is written to benefit any good skier who wants to ski the moguls better, more efficiently and, since so many mogul runs are directly under the lifts, more stylishly. If there's any shortcoming, it's in the section on line choice. Most of us could use more help in figuring the best way through the irregular mogul fields that dominate eastern skiing, but it may be that a video, rather than a book, is the best way to illustrate those choices.
Even if you never venture into a "pure" mogul run, DiPiro's techniques will help you ski through any run that's been chewed up by being over-skied, or hasn't been groomed in a while, or has gotten bumpy and irregular from a day's heavy snow. If you're a good skier who wants to "ski the whole mountain" but needs the techniques to do it, this is the book for you.
Now, if only he would make a downloadable video to bring onto the slopes in your digital camera or camera phone!
Title : Inner Skiing: Revised Edition Author : W. Timothy Gallwey Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : For any one with physical weaknessess, take a look.

Title : Harald Harb's Essentials of Skiing (Includes Free DVD) Author : Harald Harb Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : The Best Skiing Instruction Book, Bar None!!!
I have all of Harald Harb's books on skiing. I discovered them 5 years ago. I immeditely knew that he was teaching something different. I bought his first two books (anyone can be an expert 1 and 2) and now I have this book. In my opinion, this is the best manual on how to ski ever written. It is a treatise on how to carve and on how to ski effectively and effortlessly in all conditions. The book focuses on 5 fundamental movements in skiing which Harald calls the essentals. Each one is discussed in detail and each chapter contains specific drills that will enable the reader to perform each essential correctly. Because of this, the book is of equal value to both beginners and advanced skiers.
In my opinion, these are the tools that every skier needs and without them improvement in skiing can be hard fought. This is not traditional ski instruction!!
As with any sport or disciplne, practice makes permanent!! This book give you the the movements to practice that all great skiers use. If you have skied for years yet still have a stem in steeper or more difficult terrain, this book will rid you of it forever. If you want to ski like the best skiers and racers, parallel in all terrain, in all snow conditions, buy this book. It will give you the fundamentals to make you as good a skier as you want to be.
I highly reccommend this book!!!
Title : Allen Mike's Really Cool Backcountry Ski Book (Falcon Guides Backcountry Skiing) Author : Allen O'Bannon Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Cool book on cool weather camping
Well, I just panned a different book and said don't waste your money so now its time to even the score.
This book is great fun. I have lots of winter camping books and do a fair amount of winter camping. Other books may have more information, but none covers all of the basics with as much humor as this one. I do alpine skiing and snowshoeing so the coverage of tele skiing wasn't of particular interest...but I still really enjoyed reading those sections, too.
It is hard to describe the authors' irreverent approach while dealing with serious (life and death) topics, but they somehow pull it off. This is really a great book to engage someone who isn't already a hard-core winter camper...so if you are, buy it for your significant other (assuming you haven't been able to get them enthused about spending a winter weekend outdoors.) If they don't enjoy this book, you may officially give up on them.
Title : For the Love of Skiing: A Visual History of Skiing Author : Alan K. Engen Rating : 3 Stars out of 5. Summary : Neat pictures, but too much ski jumping.
Neat pictures, but kind of a muddled presentation. This is not really a general history of skiing, but a biography of Alf Engen who was a local hero in Salt Lake City, Utah and ran the Ski School at Alta for years and years. There's too much about ski jumping and not enough about other kinds of skiing. The author, Alf's son Alan, seems like a spokesman for the ski industry more than a historian.
Title : Anyone Can Be an Expert Skier 2: Powder, Bumps, and Carving (Includes Bonus DVD) Author : Harald Harb Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Probably the best instructional DVD available
This DVD (book) is great for any intermediate/advanced skier wanting to improve. I think that this DVD is even better than Lito Tejada Flores's DVDs. It is hard to say, I watched Lito's DVD before this.
This is way cheaper and way better than a one hour on the slopes instruction !!! And you can improve off-season just by watching the DVD |:)).
Title : The Athletic Skier Author : Warren Witherell Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Improve Your Skiing - Read This Book
This book was written in 1993 (it is now almost 2000) and you may be tempted to think that this book is outdated. You couldn't be more wrong! Everything in this book is as relevant, if not more so, that when it was written.
The section on canting and alignment is amazing. On first reading I was sceptical. However, I have recently been correctly canted and aligned and am amazed at the difference. As an instructor and racer, I work a lot on my skiing technique. Being correctly aligned has shown the biggest single improvement in my skiing for years.
The techniques discussed in this book are also very very good. Most of them are now more relevant than when the book was written as they allow you to get the most out of the new generation of carving skis.
Buy this book, read it, read it again, be aligned and then ski better than ever.
